Yellow PVC gas line sticking up in front yard. Please help!

I bought my house brand new in 2011 (metro Detroit area), and I have a piece of yellow pvc pipe that sticks up about 3 feet out of my front yard. It says on the pipe that it's a gas line, and a phone number for emergencies. The top of the pipe is open, there is no cap on it. Looking down into the pipe I can see a couple wires.

Assuming since this is a gas line it must be dangerous to fool around with. But it is an eye-sore. I don't want to have a big yellow pvc pipe in my front yard forever. Anyone else have experience with this? Is there some kind of proffesional I can hire to cut it down or make it less visible? I don't even know where to begin or who to call.

this is a UK website and you would do better to enquire in your own country.

Dont DTE supply utilities for your area? Why not give them a call? Most Utilities will come out for free in your kind of situation.

Yellow is typically coded for gas but a yellow plastic pipe carrying "a couple of wires" sounds like some kind of abandoned cable ground work. The yellow "gas" pipe is perhaps merely sheathing - whatever, its definitely not to Code.

How can anyone say the pipe has an emergency number and then say that he does not know who to call?

The US put the first man on the moon.

Sometimes I wonder just how they did that!

It was a German living in the USA who led the team that designed the rockets.

There was a story about the various nationalities living in the USA who had contributed to the space program. An American was getting irate as he listened to the increasing list of "foreigners" and finally demanded " So what did we Americans do ?" The story teller paused and after a couple of seconds of thought replied. " passengers "
