First time posting and can't seem to find a definitive answer to this one so......

I have a really old central heating system - a Vaillant combi boiler (vcw-sine 18 t3 wf h) that's at least 25 years old and old Yorkshire Imperial rads that sit about 6 inches off the wall and have a single valve(?) and 8mm (I think) copper piping.

I want to replace the rads and boiler but over time, I'd do the rads first and the boiler a little later.

What I want to know is - can I just buy off the shelf rads with the in / return valves on opposite sides and extend the copper piping or would I need to replace the pipes to be up to 10mm for the whole system?

I'd get someone in to do the work but wanted to know if I could start picking up rads in advance?

any idea?

Was not aware that Yorkshire Imperial ever made rads.

I think what you are refering to is the twin-entry rad valve that has 2 x 8mm pipes connecting to it. These are no longer available and could not be used on new rads anyway as most (?) rads now have bosses welded onto the rear on the panel so the flexible tube the the t/e valve uses will not fit. Just extend one pipe across under the rad and fit standard rad valves on each end of the new rads.
