My Samsung smart TV did have the youtube app, this is no longer supported.
I would like to cast from my phone to the TV, they are both connected to the same net work.
I can cast photos/videos etc no problem.
Is the ONLY way to watch youtube is to have chromecast?

Yes, you'll need the screen to have a Cast enabled app (YouTube, in this case) in order for screen-casting to work. Casting uses the phone as a sort of IP-enabled remote control for the TV's apps. Once the app is running, then the phone isn't involved in the operation unless some change is made such as selecting a new video. If you plug in ChromeCast, then that's exactly how this works too. It's the ChromeCast or TV that is pulling the content off the web.

You've got a Samsung TV. They have something called MiraCast. This is slightly different.

MiraCast literally mirrors the phone's screen on to the TV. What's on the phone screen appears on the TV, and that includes things such as settings and social media alerts. Whatever is on the phone - including your YouTube app - gets duplicated and displayed on the TV It also means that if you're watching a video when the phone goes in to low power mode (sleep) then the picture on the TV disappears too.

MiraCast doesn't require the TV to have a specific app in order for it to be seen on the TV. As long as your phone has it, abd both phone and TV are MiraCast compatible, then what's on the phone can be seen on the telly.

If this or any other reply was helpful to you, then do the decent thing and click the THANKS button. It appears when you hover the mouse pointer near the Quote Multi-quote buttons. This is the proper way to show your thanks for the time and help someone gave you.

Lucid: I had the Samsung casting app on phone only shows my pics & vids.
I installed MiraCast it cant see my TV & it says I need to install MiraCast on TV, & select something on the TV (cant remember what it said), but it wasn't on my TV.

Must be old tv to no longer support existing apps.
Samsung phone app is Samsung all share. 'No more YouTube app on smart tv - Samsung Community'.
TV is old must be at least 4 now. Kitchen Samsung TV is 3 that has youtube.
Chromecast & Miracast. 'Chromecast is focused on multimedia streaming rather than the screen mirroring of Miracast. ... Once Chromecast is up and running, any smartphone, tablet, or laptop connected to the shared Wi-Fi network will be able to wirelessly stream supported content to your television.
So I think I need to get Chromecast.
BUT
When you search for Chromecast they are from about £9 to £30.
