zaffy cat

i have had some trouble with my derv zaffy when towing. i was told to drop gears and thrash it to clear the cat. i was also told that i could legally have it removed for £100 and still pass the mot. anyadvice would be very welcome.

A good italian tune up does a diesel no harm, when did it have air and fuel filters last?
I would run a forte treatment through the tank and see if it improves before going any further.
