Zanussi washer-dryer keeps pausing

Hi

Our Zanussi ZWD 1272 W has began to stop at random. It runs for a few minutes (or just seconds) then pauses with the start/pause light flashing. Pressing the start/stop button then does nothing. There's no error code.

It generally gets though the drain programme OK (though sometimes stops there as well). The drain pipe doesn't appear to be blocked. I have also unplugged the pump filter and checked for debris (it's clear). Water seems to be entering the machine OK.

I'd be grateful for any help.

Update: I came across an earlier post describing how to get into diagnostic mode. I followed this and it came up with error code E36.

Update 2: I googled E36 and found out that it meant an earth problem with the dryer heaters. I unplugged the connectors and it now seems to be (so far) working OK again as a washing machine.

You will only be getting a cool wash though.

I didn't realise that. I assumed that the heater element at the top of the machine was for hot air only.

Top elements are for Dryer,wash heater is in tub,it will still heat the water.
