We are going to be putting TRV's on each rad, and are looking at programmable room stats as well.

2 Questions:

1. Am I right in understanding they can stand independantly, connecting to a 2 way valve that shuts off the flow at certain times?

2. Is it normal practise/useful to have zones in each room?

Thanks for your help...

1) Yes

2) No not usual or normal. Can be done though but the cost of fitting a zone valve to each room along with a room stat and/or programmer and all the wiring would make it very expensive compared with the savings generated.

Stick to your trv's.

When fitting a new ch system, if the floor area is greater than 1500 sq ft then you must have at least 2 zones plus water.

Usually upstairs and downstairs suffices.

Don't know, I was taught 1500 ft2 on my c&g energy efficiency course.
