    Sometimes a fault on the wiring does not trip an rcd till something with a high load is used like a washing machine, so do not assume...

    and it can be that the RCD that trips is not the RCD that protects the circuit with the fault.

    Sounds like a textbook example of a neutral to earth fault. Any substantial load on the same RCD causes a voltage drop on the neutral...
