around my friends house he's kitchen ring is on an RCD, when the dishwasher is turned on after a couple of mintues the RCD trips??? any reasons for this?
why did you start a new thread to continue this conversation? The simple answer is he could take the dishwasher off the RCD. Is it an old model? Older ones suffer from the insulation on the elements breaking down, and then passing the current through to earth along the earth conductor of the circuit, thus tripping the RCD.
the cause is a fault but not nessacerally a dangerous fault.
provided the equipment is well earthed some leakage from an old motor shouldn't be a huge issue (old motors tend to leak as the bushes produce carbon dust as they wear).
