PRICING. CAN WE ALL AGREE ON HERE

TV programmes discuss building work prices so why not us?

Are you mad? The prices they suggest they have paid for work on most of the TV makeover programmes are total Jackanory.

It is not the truth, it is just misinformation dressed up to make entertainment, and to massage the egos of clueless self build people who have busted their budget and don't wish to 'fess up that they are idiots on national telly.

I agree with sall2009, well put sall (not sally).

Transparency leads to honesty & common knowledge, so why should certain subjects be hidden?
A number of these DIY Q&A sites (excellent as they are) have asonishingly petty rules. The internet is for everyone and anything, get it out in the open and talk about it. TV programmes discuss building work prices so why not us? I hate pornography but you are free to watch it. I hate drugs and drink but you are free to use them.
Less rule is best rule.

There are no 'rules'. The relationship between parties is very simple, an OP wants DIY advice, the trade offer their knowledge. The OP is doing the asking so is not in a position to dictate what the trade reply to. There is no obligation for transparency as no-one here is paying for anything.

In this instance Pedanticvindictiveman has highlighted the special breed of t**ser who frequently infects the site with questions about money. Many agree it's not what they want to advise on. Maybe the non-trade can discuss prices with eachother, but don't come on here demanding anything of us. You're not our customer we've had nothing from you and owe you **** ALL.

Who is demanding anything from you? posters simply ask a question, if you don't want to respond, you have the option not to. Why do you lot get so worked up? Something to hide?

Do you or your other trades friends run this site?

So don't tell people what they can or can't do. If you don't like a post, you have the choice not to respond.

Of course they can do as they wish and try to use a DIY forum as a price comparison site. And I can choose to respond by suggesting they and you can **** off.

For a "professional” tradesman, your choice of language is quite pathetic, wouldn't you agree?

On this site I'm just another punter and not a professional anything just as you are not a customer, so I don't have to be anyone.

Do you have multiple personality disorder? Or do you switch your position as it suits you?

I bet you quote in the same way.

As for professionalism, it not something you switch on or off. It’s a quality, which I seem you are lacking.

It's switched on to answer DIY questions and off for t**sers who just fish for prices. But as I don't advertise my wares here OP's can choose not to accept my advice. As for quoting, that's between me and my customers as it should be. The trade would not field phone calls asking what they should pay a third party for work so why would you do it on the net?
