Hello all,

I'm chasing a cable through a wall to run a cooker hood from an FCU on a spur. Obviously, the FCU will be to one side of the cooker, so the cable has to go up about a metre, turn 90 degrees and run for about 70cm to the hood.

I just have one simple question that I can't locate an unambiguous answer to - can I simply turn the cable through 90 degrees, or do I have to have a mounting box of some sort to indicate the change of direction to future generations?

Many thanks!

From your FCU, run vertically up to the 150mm ceiling safe zone, route horizontally for 70cm then vertically down to the hood. You won't require any extra boxes just to show your cable routes.

Many thanks for that, GaryMo. The answer is almost embarrassingly obvious in retrospect!

Must confess that these Safe Zones 150mm around ceilings and corners always sit uneasy with me....I can see the reasoning behind them vertically & horizontally from accessories etc but the one thing that always worries me is that when installing Mini trunking for additions etc where do we always drill & install it in order to be most incospicuous.....yep ! right in the corner or but up between the top of the wall and the ceiling!!!!!!! oH Well.. Thats Life.

There is nothing wrong with the 90degree turn in the concealed cable you speak of.

The safezone exists directly above the FCU, and a further safezone exists to the side of the connection plate for the hood. Job's a good 'un.

Thanks, that's a very good point - is that still true if the connection plate for the hood is no longer visible as it will be hidden behind the (purely decorative) 'chimney' of the hood?

No - it's not still true. If you can't see the accessory than the zone it creates disappears too...

Shame - for a short while there, my life actually got easier... :(

Thanks anyway; that'll be very useful for future reference, I'm certain.
