recently applied for a tech gas engineer role made it through to the compentency based interview which i tought went really well....

anyway the guy rang and said i have not been successfull due to giving short answers on questions asked about adpapting to change?, a difficult customer? ect.....which i thought was unfair on me as i had answered them very professionaly and accurately...

my tech knowledge i know is to a high standard because i have been on site with many BG engineers who basically dnt have a clue when it comes to basic ACS stuff...

im not bitter at all but i just want to know if it would be worth applying again in 6months time or not???

the recruitment guy did say my application was of a high standard and they would defintly look forward to hearing from me in 6months time but is it worth applying again??

I think there are two things to bear in mind.

Firstly they only want a limited number of new people and obviously they will have to make up their mind which to choose.

Secondly how many they need depends on their needs as well as how many leave them and/or retire.

But you also said that you thought you did well compared with BG engs "on basic ACS stuff.

I would expect that when recruiting experienced people they will expect a good knowledge of things well above the ( pretty basic ) ACS stuff.

But by all means apply again in a few months time and sending a letter every two months might just possible coincide with a requirement for just one and they could possible take you as someone they have already seen with an adequate basic knowledge.

British Gas want Technical engineers with a flair for selling, its not all about repairing a old product its about trying to sell a new product to a customer ( even if they do not want it) do you have that ability ?

Are you prepared to sell an old dear a powerflush when all she needs is a thermocouple?
Are you prepared to leave a tc loose and away from the pilot so it fails in a breeze, telling the customer the boiler "Could go at any time"?
Are you prepared to keep quiet and toe the company line if a colleague does something wrong with disastrous consequences?
I've seen these and a host of other things..

Maybe they didn't think you were prepared to be the right type of employee?

Want an honest opinion?

(A) they have no reason to be untruthful, so assume that what they have said is the truth.
(B) on here, your posts have come across as "txt spk". If you're even remotely like that in "real life", that could cause problems.

Many job application processes come down to filtering out the no-hopes, after which, if they still have more candidates than places, they will apply fairly arbitrary criteria to select people. That's where your GCSE geography, neat handwriting, honest-looking smile etc. etc. can make a difference.

Good luck.

Its a case of telling them what they want to hear not what you would do

Is your tech knowledge as good as mine I wonder? Maybe your not as good as you think you are?:notworthy: .

Is ACS stuff as difficult as the test you do to get a CSCS card to get on site?

I have to say your grammar and spelling is dire!

Perhaps you are just lazy but writing like that it surprises me that you have presumably passed the GCSE in English!

Standards may have dropped but when I applied for my main job we were expected to write in perfect handwriting and spelling.

Tony

thanks for the posts guys.

i feel as if im being attacked by a bunch of internet trolls..??..

for the people that posted genuine replies i appreciate it, and for those who question my grammer or spelling or the way i come across i really couldn't care less...

as for people like dan.....ive served 9years in the forces FRONTLINE...so for you to tell me judging by my post you wouldn't employ me makes me laugh...you seem like a typical internet troll who can only keyboard bash mate so give it a rest and dont judge others by a simple post.

We employed a couple of chaps from the services and it didn't end well. I presume, from the way they behaved, they are taught that those of us in civvy street are berks, judging from the experiences we had. All sorts of capers, we had, and we very quickly sent them home.

But you can't judge everyone the same and until the experiences above, I had the greatest respect for ex services personnel.

BG are a large company, they will have an HR Department as mad as a box of frogs, so don't take the rejection personally. If you are any good, you will be able to get a job with a smaller independent operator. You'll learn more and possibly not be given a number rather than a name. I expect you are fed up with that already.

Don't shoot the messenger.

People here have no reason to lie to you. There are trolls on the Internet, but the people who posted here really aren't.

Do you honestly think that being ex-forces makes you more employable? (Serious question.)

Shame that practice didn't continue in your forum posts, the use of punctuation in the above would mean that it did't read like a child had wrote it.
