Dogs (why would you do this?)

Can be fierce

Yes, they can do some damage, though very rarely lethal. More likely an infection from bite or scrath could turn nasty. Cat in video is particularly switched on. People underestimate them, but their problem is they're usually just lazy. They can do more, but why bother when there's a human around to do it for them. At least they're self walking, self cleaning and self feeding if left to their own devices.

Every November we get whining dog owners calling for fireworks to be banned because their dogs get 'scared'...

How many dogs get killed by fireworks?

Answer - none.

How many people (mainly children) get killed by dogs each year in the UK?

Answer - on average about 5

Of course there are then also thousands of injuries caused by dogs, let alone the fear that they cause when they are 'only being friendly' in public places...

All dogs are essentially pack animals, and it matters not how well they are supposedly 'trained' - in certain circumstances dogs will always turn regardless of the breed...

Personally I would ban all dogs except working/blind assistance ones!

Don't want to turn this into a general moaning thread, but I'd ban fireworks! Small explosives in the hands of the general public. Every year there's reports of youths using them as weapons against people and places.

Never been impressed by them. Just find them rubbish and annoying,

Since you asked

A normally placid dog was so traumatised by the noise of fireworks that she went into panic mode before collapsing and dying. Death due to heart failure.

Very convincing evidence

The vast majority of dogs are not dangerous at all.

Dogs provide amazing companionship for millions of people in this country.

People who have never had a dog don’t understand

Here is a German Shepherd protecting a boy from a neighbours dangerous dog

I think that's the thing. If you have one, then it is your pet to love and spend time with as they're basically part of the family -- but when in public I don't want a dog running around and up me as they do. They - just as people - can be unpredictable. I don't think dog owners understand the other side sometimes.

My parents bought a German pointer three years ago and I'm still not a fan -- just find it smelly, hard work and irritating. I love all animals (and have sabbed fox hunts to prove it!) but I guess I'm not a dog person.

I trained my dog to enjoy fireworks.

At what point do you know the neighbour's dog is not "just playing?"
You don’t.

that is why:

Dogs should not be allowed to roam free

Dog owners should never allow their children to play with dogs unsupervised.

The trend for dogs to be a status symbol is the biggest cause of dangerous dog attacks: Pitbulls, Mastiffs, Rottweilers, Staffs, Dogue De Bordeaux, American Bully XLs….they are all potentially extremely dangerous and not surprisingly all breeds that the irresponsible choose to own.

Dogs bred for good temperament and from the most gentle, domesticated breeds are extremely unlikely to bite or harm. I would trust Cavapoo, Cockapoos, Labradors, Shelties, Spaniels etc to be amongst the safest.
