    Installing new/replacement pipework..where to start?

City & Guilds Qualified at college a few years ago but no experience!!! Just a hyperthetical question (at the moment) If I were to take on a house refurb/project and the central heating pipework needed replacing/updating, where (within the property) would I start, taking into cosideration a new...

    Lighting

Presently helping a work colleague with a renovation with me plastering (or I should say honing my skills!) These Autumn days are now quite short, found myself clearing up at half 3. I have seen an older thread regarding lighting. Should I be using 110v in a domestic situation or ok with 240v...

    Finish or Multi

Been asked if I could plaster a new Plasterboard wall. As I am still new to plastering, is their any noticable difference to the finish of 'Finishing Plaster' or am I OK just use Multifinish, also if I remember rightly I do not need to PVA the board first?

    Which Mitre Saw?

Haven't done any coving work since my Plastering course a couple of years ago, then we used a (hand) mitre saw (we were also given a coving template, internal/external angles which are very helpful) Could anybody recommend a make, obviously deep enough to take coving, or is it just as easy to...

    Replacing room thermostat

Our Honeywell wall thermostat is over 20 years old. Works ok but at a certain setting it starts to'buzz' so needs a slight adjustment either up or down. What is the process to replace it should I feel the need, ie should I just shut off the electric and remove from the wall. What is the step by...

A while ago I fitted a new part 2 ball valve to the CWSC, (shutting off the rising main) Because the F&E is fed from cwsc, how would I go about fitting the same to the F&E tank? Thanks in advance.

    Ball Floats

Recently fitted a replacement Part 2 ball valve in a CWSC. The new valve is shutting off the water OK, but water level is a little higher than I would like. Without lowering the 'entry' point, are there 'larger' ball floats available, rather than resulting to 'bending' the arm. The ball...

    Thistle Board Finish...

A colleague at work has asked me to plaster his new boards some time possibly soon. I've been looking at Thistles Board Finish description, and says it is 'an ideal final coat plaster' Should there be an undercoat plaster first then board finish, OR just a couple of coats of Board Finish? Thanks.

    Damp re-appearing

Have been doing some reskimming in a colleagues house she has is now doing up. Old terrace, bay window. On one of the lower bay walls was a damp area, just over a foot square, maybe more. I did take it back to brickwork and used hardwall prior to multi. That was a few months back. Apparently the...

    Easi-fill or plaster

At the top of our stairs we have a ceiling to skirting crack, has been there for many years (settlement) Has been re-filled over the years. Now needs doing again. It's not just a 'hairline' crack, is looking quite bad. Should I take it back a fair way and re-fill/skim with multicoat. The walls...

    Used Bonding coat?

Whilst on a job today, I followed a sparky colleague who recently left me a couple of 'back to brickwork'/wide chases. I used Bonding on these, which also cracked on drying, I guess because of the amount of bonding used. Did I do right using bonding?

    Attaching corner beads

On a job today where I attached a couple of corner beads, both were reasonably long and fighting aginst gravity, I think the plaster held them ok (I hope so!), if i were to 'nail' them on, what type of nail would I need, into old plaster work?
