    Honeywell Bellbox replacement

Hi all, I'm looking for a replacement bell box for a Honeywell Accenta system. The strobe has stopped working and the box is looking a bit shoddy generally. I can't find anything around. I fitted a Reason8 box on my parents system a few years ago but I can't find anything like them available...

    Accenta G4 programs

I have P2 & P3 setup with omitted zones, I now have a requirement for a third program (P1?) but I am assuming P1 is the default program, so I guess I can only really have 2? Its not clear in the engineering manual and its not something I fancy experimenting with too much lol. Cheers

    Outhouse power supply method

Hi all, A friend of mine wants a new power supply to the bottom of her garden. She is currently running a hot tub and a freezer down there off an unfused spur from the house ring! I have suggested coming off the consumer unit into SWA but she is in a mid terraced, with concrete floors. What...

    ADE / Honeywell Simple set

Hi all. I installed a Honeywell alarm around 5 years ago and included a simple set fob reader (rf id). This has recently ceased to function which is a real shame and it seems to be discontinued :( I have a limited knowledge of alarm systems but I would love ti know if there a similar compatible...

    Cost of insulation??

Hi all. I need to insulate my loft, so I went out to get a few rolls, but I couldn't believe it when I saw the prices - a year or so ago I bought two full size rolls for about £3 each, now the similar rolls are £20+! I think it was government subsidised when it was £3 and I guess they must have...

    Telephone extension

Hi all. I need to fit a socket in the lounge for sky tv. I have already ran an extension upstairs for the router. It would be easier if I could spur off of the master socket for the lounge (already spured off for upstairs) but I'm not sure if it is recommended to have a star type connection or...

Alarm triggered on power shutdown Optima Compact G4 panel?

Hi all. I plugged in a faulty appliance that caused the main breaker to trip so the panel lost power. It went into alarm mode, and the first thing I did was head for the panel, but no power on it? No LED's or keypad lighting? the bell box is mounted low down as it is on an outhouse - and...

Best method to stiffen up floor joists and stop twisting

Hi all, I've taken down my lounge ceiling and exposed the floor joists above, I notice there are pretty big gaps either side of them, so they move about and can twist What is the best method of securing them? I'm thinking either expanding foam or grip fill? Cheers

    Corking for silicone sealant backing?

Hi all. I have almost finished doing the kitchen. I have a gap of about 10-15mm down the back of the hob (between the worktop and the wall). I could just fill it with silicone or caulking but I'd rather not because a lot will go in there lol. A few years ago I used to work as a window fitter...

    Alarm power cabling

Hi all, Just got the the stage where I need to feed the cables into my alarm back box. I have put a switched spur right under the unit. What size cable do I have to use to run into the alarm? 2.5mm seems a bit overkill seems as the current will be tiny? Thanks

    Thermostat wiring cable size

Hi all, I need to fit a thermostat to my fairly old boiler. It uses a mains powered stat, so I need to run live, neutral, earth and switch wire to my stat. Can I use 1.5m 3 core + earth or does it have to be 2.5mm 3 core + earth? The boiler says it needs a 3 amp spur for power so there...

    boiler spur or on ring?

Hi all. I have just moved house, and we are currently re-wiring. An electrician said to me that we should run a spur, but the only reasoning he gave was so it could be turned off if it needed to be worked on but surely you just turn the socket off? Its currently plugged into a wall socket...
