6kw on 13amp socket

Now we know that the TOTAL load is only 3kW it SHOULD be alright to plug in.

Unless there are other large loads being used at the same time it should NOT trip.
Even then it would not trip instantly

It would appear that the iron is faulty and is causing a short-circuit.

Check the wiring in the iron plug, if possible, but it could be an internal fault.

The iron is merely an attachment and not an independant item.

It looks as though there is not any easy solution..

Thank you again for all of the responses and apology once more for my innacurate initial postings.

The question as to what is tripping has not been answered. The MCB is a duel unit with magnet and thermal trip it may be that a supply with a B16 MCB would trip but a C16 would not which is why we are asking what is tripping.

Unable to establish whether it is b16 or c16

Does the following help
Wylex wses 63/2
On the trip - nb30. 30amp type 2

All accessories are fine, only iron problem

The later wylex unit sounds like the RCD,
The first units are MCB's.
Two questions that need answering

Which one trips?
If the socket circuit is protected by a 16Amp MCB then is anything else on the circuit at the same time as the cleaner and iron?
If it is the RCD that trips when the iron is connected then you have earth fault on the iron.

I take it the wses 63/2 refers to an RCD which is NOT tripping and
nb30. 30A type 2 to an MCB which IS.

Type 2 is an older model equivalent to type C now and, as you say, 30A so all should be well.

Faulty iron seems to be the reason.

Normally nothing else working at the same time on the circuit.

Power trips the mcb as soon as iron is connected.

so you are saying it is the 30A MCB that is tripping, not the RCD.

Is that right?

With nothing else on the citcuit?

Faulty iron. You can try plugging it in somewhere else to see what happens, if you like.

Yes it is the mcb. Have tried other sockets with same outcome. Sounds like there is unanimity on faulty iron.

Have you tried using the iron only and nothing else?
If the circuit then trips, as already mentioned your iron is faulty, could be flex, flex connection or internal of iron. If still under warranty return it.

When the iron is used, there is no possibility of connecting any other type of attachment. Iron will be checked. Thanks to all.
