I need to flush my CH system and the only drain valve I can find is above the boiler on the inlet side. The boiler is at the mid point of the house so half the rads will be below that point, just releasing the water from this point wouldn't really help would it?

How can I ensure a full flush without any specialist pumping equpment?

Will filling emptying, and cycling repeatedly eventually flush the system or will sludge etc be left at the bottom of the system?

Some later radiator valves have integrated drainage points. Have you checked all of you radiator valves for such an option.

take a rad off and drain through the valve

Sounds messy, can I then allow the system to fill and flush through, say if I connected a hose to the exposed pipe and then catch it in a suitable container.

I think I know what your talking about yes, but no all pipework goes straight into the rad and shutoff valve

remove the rad after turning off the valves there will be some water in it so have a tray ect handy

either got a rad tail or remove the existing one
attach hose to tail
tail to valve

open valve (after leading the hose outside )

presto !!!

other way is use a self cuttind tap

while the system is drained fit drain points as req for the futre :)

Took rad off wall with suitable container to collect black sludge. connected my normal plastic hose adapter that screws to the outside tap on, fitted perfect and flushed the system through,
Couldn't find a drain fitting that was compresion as I have no soldering gear so left that one for the time being.

That wouldn't have flushed every rad would it, theoretically I would have to do the same to every rad, correct?

Thanks job done

if they are drop fed ie from above you will need to flush all the drops seperatley :)

well at least you know how

you can use a compression t and a normal drain valve ;)
