He says he will give me my money back or fit a nes door. Is this a no brainer? Should I just ask for my money back?

if he was any good then what he should of done was plane door down equal both sides if it then exposed any chipboard then reduce it more and relip the door to make it a PROPER job,weve all been there and what he has left you is totally unacceptable.as for the top well most doors dont even get a lick of paint so as said possibly acceptable.
as for the frame think he shouldve allowed for making good in his price again this would then make him look professional.
i wouldve filled it with some timber and planed it down,but thats me.
