HOW TO PUNISH THE RIOTERS?

how to punish them? how about chopping the tip off the left hand little finger. And if they break the law again, cut the next knuckle off... etc.

So society will know who, and what they are... brand them...

You are starting to support Sharia Law?

Quite a simple solution here....

Use some of that indelible dye in a water cannon - pink would be nice

....after the riot anyone who is "pink" is -

1/ evicted
2/ dole cancelled
3/ banned from every shop, bus, train, etc

....law could also be changed to make it legal to "punch" anyone who is pink

cost - very little

Please tell me how would being covered in dye actually means you have committed a crime?

What about someone who was on the street trying to calm things down, or defending their property?

Knee jerk reactions are usually stupid reactions!

They did that in Indonesia a few years ago. And in South Africa just before the fall of Apartheid (they used purple dye and nicked anyone coloured purple later)

And just for those advocating water cannons..."

...Why am I not surprised by your comments. Your reaction symbolises everything that has gone wrong in this country. Always sympathy for the offender and never for the victim.
...Most folk in this country work very hard for what they have, whilst the "thugs" are continually allowed to steal, burn or vandalise it without any fear of reprisal.
I would love to hear your views on these feral tossers after you have suffered at their hands,
It is time for real punishments to be introduced for offenders, maybe things will finally change......
As a kid we would never dare steal or vandalise because of what would happen if we were found out. these days kids seem to do it because they fancy a free trip to Alton towers.

As you are so vocal on what we should NOT do perhaps you could suggest an alternative.

Being involved in a riot, looting, or simply refusing to disperse when the police order it?

Images of people wearing hoodies, masks and trying to stop people looting and rioting are a bit hard to find for some reason.
Defending their property? When arrested/in court for being nicked outside No22 High Street, Crapney, giving their address as No22, High Street Crapney will tell even the dimmest policeman or judge they were probably not looting their own house..

Water cannon have been used in Northern Ireland for some time. Even if the press were heavily censored, if water cannon were so hugely dangerous, surely word about maimings and killings by it would have slipped across the Irish Sea by now?

So guys , you are walking down the street minding your own business, a water cannon paints you pink and you get arrested without any defence because the dye proves your guilt then you get some ''punishment'' dished out to you.
How would you feel?

I can suggest an alternative , study the social issues that led to the riots and commence tactics to prevent further riots from happening.
Let the police do their job and stop being a ''hero'' by suggesting we take the law into our own hands.

Why would I be walking aimlessly about in the front lines of a riot if I wasn't up to no good?

Is there a branch of the Train-spotting Society that specialise in Water Cannon?

Which is a good thing to do.

After we've stopped the rioting and looting.

If I had a dog that chased people up the street, I could speak to various experts in dog obedience, read some books, search the internet, and then commence a training program designed, over the course of weeks or months, to train my dog not to chase people up the road.

But first, I'd go up the road and get my dog back, apologise to the people it was chasing, whack its nose, call it a bad dog, and stick it on a leash so it couldnt run off.

...study the social issues?? - do not get me started on that one - think you will find doing that is what led us here in the first place.

...what social issues could possibly justify the level of destruction caused yet not justify punishing them in case we further damage their social issues

I am sorry, maybe I am out of order but I will bet you everything I own that if you held a referendum more folk would side with me than you

What would you suggest? Obviously there is an issue here that runs deeper than a few people breaking the law.

think you will find doing that is what led us here in the first place.

Can you please explain what has been done to address these issues, do you even know the social issues that led to the riots?

Exactly , I am not saying these people are beyond the law but punishment is not preventing people from breaking the law, we need to get to the cause and not faff around deciding what to do after the damage has been done.
Yes they have broken the law and yes if caught will be dealt with accordingly but that wont stop it from happening again.
