I'd love to know why the Italian navy (and all the other boats) doen't just land the immigrants back where they started from.

I was reading an article recently, where it seems as though some of the so called humanitarian organisations, are possibly paying, but definitely colluding with the people smgllers, because they are directing the rescue boats to the exact location of the boats about to sink.
