My cabin air circulation is producing a continuous wooooooo noise. When I turn the AC off with the fan staying blowing, the noise goes away. The noise comes back when AC is on again. The noise is loud enough to be an annoyance when driving at 20mph. It's also audible at higher speed when driving on smooth roads. Would anyone like to do a diagnosis/guess what the problem is?

Check the refrigerant charge and the drive belt for wear.
I did think it was quieter when I charged up the refrigerant a couple of years back. That was probably psychological. I have identified the problem now. The compressor bearing was very well worn. That needs to be changed. I got to it but I don't have a 90 degree circlip plier to get further.
Tricks discovered through thrashing around:
1. grip clutch plate using plastic-rubber jar opener to undo central bolt
2. plastic hammer on seized clutch plate + WD40 in central bolt hole (the splines could be lubed via the hole )+ lots of patience and hammering dislodged the plate eventually

Although a dedicated puller tool was available to buy at an OK price, I thought I'd try an improvisation with a couple of 3 jaw pullers and various bits and bobs. There was no room to apply force and I had to fight every millimetre of it. In the end I resorted to using a wide chisel as a pry bar. I prevailed. The bearing was an NSK 35BD5222DUM18A, The compressor was a denso unit, model unknown.

Extraction of the bearing by pressing was impossible using a mini bench vice. Probably the handle too short. It was easily pulled out using a lead screw and some large washers.
This is my first foray into china precision bearings. I am hopeful it will be fine. If not, DIY instructions are on the internet! Bearing dimension is 35x52x22.

I heard on the internet pattern parts are fine.
But what does your insurance company say? Can you show us a scan of the relevant section in your insurance policy.

I don't suppose I could borrow your T&C? Mine should be similar. I know you are a sticker for rules and manufacturer's instructions etc. I imagine you probably keep your insurance documents under the pillow for quick reference.
