R8 system - voice dialer / keypad

Our house has a Veritas R8 fitted, we've never used it but the previous occupants did.

It has a voice dialer hooked up to it but no phone line nearby, guess they never bothered to run the extension!

Anyway in the days of apps and mobile notifications a voice dialer seems a bit old hat, are there any modern 'upgrades' that are worth looking at? The installer mentioned a wireless / DECT bridge but wouldn't this rely on the house power being on..? What about something GPRS based with a PAYG sim?

Also the keypad is just a simple one with no display. I'd prefer something with a bit more feedback - is it possible to upgrade it?

Veritas is a bit old hat, but still in production. Next step up would be a premier elite system made by same manufacture this will allow a wifi module or fixed ip module which will allow app control etc... Keypad would be better too with LCD display. Cabling and detectors can be reused. A cheaper option would be to fit a GSM dialler to the veritas these can be brought on Ebay and wired in to any alarm.

I would look at upgrading the panel and keypad, if you want to go down the app route.
