No, seriously, I've got no problem with something like a borstal, but only if absolutely all other avenues are exhausted.

Now, a final question, if I may. Lets work from the standpoint that all parents have to play their part in making sure their children aren't 'yobs' - Do you imagine that more yobs are the offspring of bookish liberals, or of parents who constantly shout at and smack their kids ?

Just out of interest how did you deal with you're children

I smacked my son on I think it was four occasions for doing something silly and dangerous and my daughter just once for lashing out and hitting a woman on the breast. It was the last resort. The line they should not cross.

I wouldn't expect you to understand how to educate anyone. However, it is indeed possible - I have a friend who works with the police in rehabilitating male young offenders. They have a lot of success - not with every one of them, but more than half.
