Hi, Ive just moved into an old house with an old boiler!! It runs fine from cold, you can switch it with either stat, or the one on the front of the boiler, but when its warmed up, it trys to light when called upon - it lights and then goes out, as if its struggling on flame detection, but only when hot. I assume the detection is done via the spark electrode as I cant see any other way. Any help appreciated. Scott

Sounds like it is going to overheat. It may be that this model has the thermostatically controlled pump over run thermostat for when it is hot and that this has broke. Can you hear the pump keep going when boilr is hot and flame goes out?

Or the condensate could be partially blocked

More likely the ign electrode has been burnt away which is common on these.

Mind you it could be the inner flue rotted aswell

You may catch my drift. Get it checked by someone who knows all the problems that the energysaver has at age :!:

Ive checked the condensate, thats ok.

Not sure about the pump overrun!!

The spark electrode looks ok, and it does run for an hour no problem, kicking in and out on the stat as it should.

When it fails it does light first, but the flame detection light cant make its mind up, then it goes out. Leave it a half hour, and its ok again!
