Re: emmigrating to Holland
The fuse in a UK plug is really largely there because of the ring-circuits i.e. the socket might only be fused at 30Amps or 32Amps. On the continent, socket circuits are fused at 16Amps normally, sometimes 10amps older wiring . Just cut the UK plugs ...

Re: Low Voltage Lights
There are a few things to remember with low voltage lighting. 1 Just because it's low voltage does not mean that you can use thinner wires. Ensure that the wires that you are using are of a sufficient gauge to carry the load at the voltage you are us...

Re: sockets!
With regard to the design of circuits, you basically need to consider a few things. 1 For a kitchen you will typically have a 32amp supply for the Cooker, which is dedicated to the cooker and cannot have any sockets connected to it. i.e. the UK style...

Re: sockets!
In Ireland radials are the norm for sockets, but rings are permitted except in kitchens where a minimum of 2 radials are required. 20amp radials can have a maximum of 10 sockets and can only serve a maximum of 2 rooms except kitchens Rings are connec...

Re: Apartment wiring issue, Cork Ireland
Typical Irish house wiring: New regs add RCD protection to the bathroom lighting circuits Most installations have several 20A radial circuits, and no rings. Also, 2 radials minimum are required for kitchen sockets, rings are not permitted in this are...

To check if it's a ring..
If you want to be 100% sure whether it's a ring or a radial, just check the circuit breaker rating. 16 or 20 Amps = Radial 32 Amps = Ring. Simple as that!

Re: French electrician
Wiring regulations in France are definitely quite strict and also very different to the UK as the above poster said. There are major differences like a requirement to have double-pole switching live and neutral circuit breakers etc. Do you know if th...

Re: Wiring a dual fuel Range Cooker
I would strongly recommend using 10mm2. If you want to add a hob or something else later on, it will make life much easier. A double pole switch is required in Ireland for a cooker connection. Use a 45A switch if possible, again it's just less fuss t...

Re: Garden & Shed Lighting - Ireland
It actually breeches the Irish wiring regulations to connect directly to a socket circuit as lighting and socket circuits are supposed to be kept separate. You can use a fused connection unit, as described, and a 3amp fuse. However it is not normal p...

Re: Apartment wiring issue, Cork Ireland
I am quite confused by your post. Socket outlets in an Irish home are wired one of two ways: Most commonly : Radials: Typically a 20A circuit breaker MCB will feed a circuit which feeds all the sockets in one room, or where loads or light, may feed a...
