I've got a mouse in my bedroom - please help!

You can tell, there is a particular aroma of deceased mouse.

OMG!!!!! I've been noticing a strange smell, but it's not there all the time so I wondered if I was imagining it - kinda musty?

Could they have set up home inside the bed base? It's a drawer divan. (Where's a screaming smiley when you need one?).

Over the last 18 months I've had the bathroom refurbed (badly, they even swept tile/grout debris under the floorboards, I took a photo) and new windows throughout the flat, now the kitchen has been done.

I'm going to get help to investigate the bed environs and do some Googling too.

Yes, I've treated some men rather badly in my time, now's my come-uppance, no-one to help

Googling in the bed environment??? Let's get back to the filthy vermin (mice not men! - or Of Mice and Men, oh dear). Rid yourself of them, be brave, otherwise it'll be like that famous bedroom scene from Dr No when James Bond was asleep in bed (just substitute the Tarantular for Minnie).

I wouldnt worry that much.

but do get the tom and jerry style mouse traps, i know you dont want to kill them but if dead they are not coming back, and cant have babies.

3 weeks ago i was emptying our bin and guess what i found 2 mice (alive and well) they had fallen in. mrs Breezer said not to kill them, so i took them into the garden and let them go.

but being me i set up mouse traps. within 3 days i had 2 dead mice. i still have the odd trap set out now.

you know the nursery rhyme, hickory dickory dock.................

well i never would have believed it but i have seen a mouse run up a vertical wall (wasnt here) so getting into your place, no problem. I am sorry but you have to kill them if you want rid. if you dont kill they will breed like no ones, i have a pic if you like of 7 mice babies i found, and that was 7, from one pair of parents.

Also as said poison is no use in a house, they die, but then rot, and then you have to get them to get rid of the smell.

I'm reading a 'mouse site' and found this:

Mice are extremely good climbers (they can run up a vertical brick wall!)... The rule is if you can fit a pencil through a hole then a mouse can get through!... Once you have caught a mouse you will need to take it up to a minimum of 2 miles away to ensure it will not return

They say mice can get in thru air bricks and door frames - I've just had a new door frame in the kitchen - maybe there were mice in the wall, which is hollow cos this flat is a conversion.

I hope my traps will arrive today or tomorrow, I'm feeling less alarmed and will take stock after I've laid those traps and seen any results (memo: buy Mars bar today). Thanks for helping me pass the time and keep my sanity, lads

We get the local mouse, every year, just the one, we never fall ill, it will be due shortly, because of the weather, there's a hole in the coving just above my computer seat, it hasa nibble for a few days a week, clap my hands, then goes quite for a while.

We don't leave food about, no food, no stay,

We used to get quite a few field mice in the past, never no trouble, but the motorway m61, no farms or livestock left, and the birds have left the area, keep the mouse

unless the mouse is wearing dungarees and a hard hat and says "mornin" you have no idea its the same mouse, they dont live that long anyway,(apaerntly less than a year) so it cant be the same one

Yep I agree with Breezer, its unlikely its the same mouse ie you'll have more than one! Sorry!!!

The only way to get rid of them is to kill them. You can buy traps and bait stations from Wilco's etc. Get some and use them. Bait the stations with the blue mouse killer pellets. Bait the traps with a small piece of mars bar. DO NOT use cheese! That's an old wives tale.

Next you need to identify where they are coming in. They can come in under the doors believe it or not. Check the external doors first (back and front). If they are UPVC then they 'should' be fine but check right round for any gaps and fill any found with silicone. If the doors are Wooden then check the 'Weather Bar' for wear. On older properties you will find its probably a strip of wood that you would step over. It'll be fixed to the floor (or should be). The door closes against this wood. The wood can become worn over time as people tread on it. If the wood is worn down then replace it with a new piece. That should stop the little swines getting in. Now you just need to kill any that have set up home. Be prepared to be woken in the middle of the night though when the traps start going off. Its not a pleasant sight mind. If you don't relish the thought you may need to ask someone who doesn't mind 'clearing up the dead', to sleep over with you for a week.

I've gone to traps and found a mouse trapped but still alive! Now that is a nasty one because you've got to kill it yourself. It may sound hard clemenzina but its the only humane thing to do in that situation as the poor sod will probably have a broken spine anyway. It doesn't get any nicer does it?

Oh by the way, don't suffer in silence. I saw an advert on the tele, apparently you can get treatment for clemenzina. Sorry, couldn't resist!

We spotted a mouse in our garage last year.

Just as a precaution we put some poison down.

We've found at least 15 dead 'uns since then.

I use rentokill fask action killer. The mice don't make it more than 6" away from the bait, and often dont even make it out the bait box.

I use the sealed plastic boxes as we sometimes have children round the house, and it is much harder for them to get at the poison. (we don't allow them to play with it obviously, but if they managed to find atleast they can't eat it or owt)
