Excel spreadsheet

I have tried to view something, the computer says it is an Excel spreadsheet file XLS, it offers to find a program online, and comes up with Microsoft Excel.

Do I need to purchase this, or is there an alternative preferably free way, to view it.

For Vista please.

You don't have excel installed? You could use excel viewer to view, or if you want a full office suite, try open office.

This one should do the job. Its states XP, but Office 2003 works OK on Vista, so I dont see any reason why it won't work.
