Can anyone tell me how much I would save in gas if I were to upgrade my Kingfisher MKII RS80 boiler to a modern condensing unit?

Boiler alone, probably 12-20%.

Boiler and new controls, if needed, up to 30% approx.

if it is an open flue model, and you have an old poorly performing cylinder as well, you may win something like 30- 40 percent

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, its an open flue.

So any recommendations/costs on what to replace with? Its a 5 bed house with basement.

some boilers are better than others; personally, i only install worcester bosch because the product is one of the better and their customer service is second to none.

what is even more important than a good boiler is the quality of the installer.
spend as much time as it takes to find a really good one, if half possible somebody who installed a system for friends or relatives or anybody else you know and tells you this guy is the best there is.
shoddy work can easily ruin the best boiler money can buy whereas quality installation and maintenance will ensure even a mediocre boiler works reliably.

Thanks bengasman

I've learnt my lesson with poor workmanship ..

My last house I had a Worchester Bosch Combi installed by a 'cowboy',

When I came to sell the house 7yrs later the buyer asked for a Gas saftey certificate - He had joined the 5" Combi flue outlet to the existing 4" vertical flue ... this ran through 2 floors and the loft ... cost me £1200 to have a new flue .. as I was leaving the property!

But as you say, the Worchester Bocsh was faultless ... never let me down.

gas4you- fanflue wb, flue elobow into chimney. it hunted like **** but was firing. the guy called me in cos it was abit noisy. it was baffling like buggery and i couldnt work out why till i went outside and realised where the flue was going. to top it off, i threw a smoke bomb in the boiler and sure enough out the chinkey came the smoke. and in the ensuite bathroom too  .

Dave/gas4you - Ah, yes your right - it is a balanced flue on my RS80.
