Hi all,
First time poster here and I'm looking for some help and advice.
We've recently been having some problems with our central heating. As a result we had a plumber come round to apply some sludge removal. In doing so, he also noticed that the top of our boiler casing (Potterton Suprima 30) had started to gather rust because of a leaking pipe situated above it. Now there is no hole in the top of the boiler, but the accumulation of rust has led him to think that a hole's not far off. The leaking pipe has also been stopped.
The plumber suggested that the whole bolier unit needs to be replaced which would cost approx £1000.
Now I'm not one to scrimp when it comes to safety, but are there any less expensive alternatives? Times are quite hard and £1000 seems a lot to fritter away on a complete new system when the system itself is fine and it's just the outer case that has slowly been eroded.
Is it possible to get a replacement outer casing for the boiler? Or even to repair the existing one by patching up the damage?
Your advice would be very much appreciated as I'm very much in the dark and would like some informed advice.
Many thanks,
Mark
