Been to return a faulty 9" grlnder outslde of thelr 30 day policy, they refused to exchange lt, or glve a refund, saylng l have to contact the manufacturers by phone, 0905 number, been on for ten secs to flnd they're closed tlLL the morning (cost//90p) so, l'LL be spendlng about 5 mlns on the phone tomorrow, at what cost?

What happened to customer care, according to the manager, the rules changed last yr and from now on, the customer as the responsibility of sorting lt out themselves, and thls appLles to every shop .(even t.v. shops)

Anyone hrow a blt of Light on this??? lt looks Llke lm golng to have to pay for the return packaglng as well. never be buylng thelr gear agaln.

absolutely bol****s, your contract is with the shop you bought the goods from, if they refuse to replace, repair or exchange faulty goods report them to trading standards.
Their internal rules cannot infringe on your rights at common law.

Anobium is correct, you have statutary rights which mean within the first year it is up to the shop where you brought the item to deal with replacements/refunds for faulty goods.

Give trading standards a call or maybe try Aldi head office and inform them what the manager of your store has said.

LIbby why Is your post full of I's there is an i on most key boards.

the 30 days should only apply to unwanted goods not faulty goods. as others have said the store is obliged to exchange or refund an item that is not of merchantable quality and a dead power tool comes under that category.

Find the "sale of goods act" print it out and take it with you.
IF the manager refuses then advise them that your next stop will be Trading Standards.

Really appreclate your repLles, l sald to the manager, hang on, lf l buy a tv, the tv shop sorts the tv out, no the manufactors, she sald the law changed last yr, down to tradlng standards/health n saftey, can't swear whlch she sald,
WlLL call to the tradlng standard tomorrow. as l'm not too far away, wlLL report back.

Sorry Stlvlno, yes, lt wouldn't crank up, when the woman on the tlLLsaw me wlth lt, she sald, "what's wrong luv, blew up?" but the swlch ls faulty, done the fuse and the easy access brushes.

p.s. my letter l ls goosed :D

yep as said above your contract is with the person/retailer where you bought the goods from no matter how long ago even if out of warentee g/tee ect
sale off goods act say it should be fit for purpose if it was £3.70 then you cant expect it to last more than the 1 year
if it was £20 then its open to debate if after 1 year is fit for purpose

but in your case throw it at them its there respocibility even without proof of purchase

keyboard didn't come from the same shop then.

Why do l assume everyone has a laptop? anyway got another one shortly as my daughter has upgraded, golng to get hers when lt comes back from the shop,(havlng a new keyboard fltted  )

Well, spoke to tradlng standards today, they sald we only deal wlth crlmlnal cases?, he gave me a leaflet and a phone. no. Spoke on the phone, to a nlce lady who sald aldl are ln the wrong, and l should go to a gov.com slte, download a template letter and send to sald shop and head offlce, glve them 14 days to reply.

Went armed wlth thls lnfo, seen the manager, she sald, "but our polLcy ls....blah blah, " l sald to her, showlng her the leaflet that the law ls on my slde, she sald,"but wev'e never been sued for thls" l told her l was not wlLLlng to contact the manufactors because of the cost of the phone call.

ClvlL conversatlon, she says we'll phone them for you, does so, she glves my detalLs, then tells me, expect a call wlthln 48hrs

2-3 hrs later, got the call, ln Bolton ls the suppLler, send a copy of the recelpt wlth the serlal no, and l'LL get a replacement sent free of charge, l wlLL take the lnfo up on monday mornlng, and get the grlnder.

Okay, blt of a result, but spent all day sortlng lt out, but lt stlLL seems that aldl can spout thls crap tlLL they get reported, my argument ls now over wlh aldl, so, ls lt polntless stlLL sendlng that template, wlth alteratlons, as l no longer have an lssue.? just on prlnclple???

thanks to all for the encouragement.

Id go back to the shop again and see the same person remind them of the item and previous conversation and ask for their name, when they ask why just say you need a name to tell trading standards who refused you a refund.
And also if they can provide an address for their main office as you intend to write to the MD about certain people working for them who misinform the customers by making up sections of the Sales of Goods Act.

Hey Libby. I seem to recall you bragging about your daughter being a trainee solicitor. Pity she's never heard of the Sale of Goods Act eh?

WTF does this mean ...

Is it an emoticon version of an epileptic fit or have you been sniffing the plaster dust again Josef? :?  8) :o
