Hi,

I have a Halstead Combi boiler 2 yrs old. The problem that I am having is its completly not working. There is no display lights no hot water no heating. You would think that the system was switched off but it definatly is not. Dont know if the water tank might be empty as we have had the water switched off in the house for 24hrs to allow a new toilet to be fitted. The pressure gauge is working and sitting fine at 1.5.

I really know nothing about boilers and radiators so please could you be very simple minded with any advice, thanks

Check the fuse on the socket were it is connected to the mains, sounds like thats gone if you have zero power to the boiler.

If the pressure is at 1.5 then it is nothing to do with you emptying the tanks as you put it.

As said above, going to be electrical.

Checked the fuse and turns out the fuse was dead so replaced it with a new one the same size (3 amp). The boilers digital diaplay flashed on then went straight back off with a sort off "blown" noise. Removed that amp, tested it and it was blown. So changed the amp again but replaced with a 13amp. The fuse works but the boiler still isnt working. :(

By fitting a larger fuse you may have caused more damage to the boiler. You should never fit a larger fuse to try and rectify a problem unless the original is smaller than the manufacturer recommends.

You're going to have to get a registered gas installer out to look at the boiler as something has failed within the boiler.
