2 Years ago when both my grandchildren were 12 months and 15 months old my children, their parents, took them to the local swimming baths and my wife and I went along to watch. I took my video camera.
There was only one other bloke in the water with his son who was about 12 years old. I started filming my grandkids while this other fella was about halfway up the pool with his son. Within 2 minutes a whistle was blew and 2 attendants TOLD me to stop filming! Not asked, TOLD!
When I asked why they said it was against the rules of the baths and other parent(s) might object. I immediately went down and asked this bloke if he minded me filming my grandkids in the shallow end. Not in the least he said, we will stay out of your way. I went back to filming and again the heavy mob arrived demanding my camera. Told them what the guy said and told them, politely because the camera was running, that they had no chance. I asked them where are the notices forbidding cameras and they admitted they didn't know. They then walked away.
Less then 10 minutes later a police man and a police woman arrived and told me to hand my camera over. By now the kids were out of the pool and getting dried off. I asked on what grounds and they said I was breaking the by laws of the baths stating no cameras were allowed. They didn't know where the signs where either so we all went to the office and asked the manager. He admitted there weren't any signs on display it was just one of their rules.
Result?
Police said there was nothing they could do as it was not against the law to film in public and there was no signage to say otherwise.
If the guy with his son had said he wasn't very happy about it I would have shown what I had filmed and then agreed to stop but he was quite happy about it.
There are an awful lot of people who will have happy memories about events but no permanent record because of these narrow minded prats.
