ive just noticed that there is some kind of bright blue chalky stuff around my outside tap, ive lived here for a year but not noticed it before as its around the part of the tap thats inside the wall.
does anyone know what it is please as now im a bit worried it might be asbestos but as ive never seen it i dont know.

Hi,

Is there any chance you can take any photos and upload them so i can have a look at what the problem is?

Thanks

sounds like the plumber didn't clean the flux off when he soldered the pipe.

i agree with seco and mogget, but still am not 100:% as u decsribe it as being "Bright blue" dried flux resin tends to be more or a greeny colour. or so i thought

Usually it's green but I have seen shades of turquoise and blue before.

Saralouise, does the deposit scrape away easily?

If you're really worried about it, you can always replace it all with speedfit pipe and taps

That sounds suspiciously like tempting fate!

I wonder how well speedfit will stand up to years of UV exposure outside!

i've got a length of speedfit in the garden been their 8 yr and sound but the coupler has discoloured.

Whaddya mean? Everyone on here keeps telling me how great and inert plastic is and how it and the silicon o-rings on the fittings will last forever. Really mogget, you should have more faith in modern technology!

Im not one for speedfit, its easier than cleaning fluxing and soldering joints, or compression, but i for one am not a fan of plastic, only ever used it in 2 jobs i did, and one of them was an outside tap lol
