Hi All,

I've got hopefully a little query - looking for some tricks of the trade! I'm trying to install a radiator - I know how to do it, but with this one I'm struggling, because the pipes coming up to the valves have an S bend to get around the joist, rather than being a straight bit of pipe.

Essentially my question is how on earth can you get the compression joint (on the valve) onto the copper tight enough, and keep the S bend in the right plane? I can get the joint tight, and have the S twisted, or I can have the S so that it appears straight when you look from the room, but the joint not quite tight enough, but I can't seem to get both!

The best I can do is to get it as tight as I can with the S out of alignment, and then continue turning the nut, so that the copper S turns with it, and hope I can get it straight...Is this the right way to do it?!

Thanks in advance!

Morning Kev.

Jointing paste on the olive, and the thread as lubricant.

Hi Both,
Thanks for that - Tried holding it in place - but I'm a bit of a wimp - love plumbing, but I'm starting to think it's not for girls (or I need to go to the gym!)
- just one query...I've used PTFE on the joints; should I use Bosswhite with this? Seem to recall I was advised not to - but wouldn't be the first time I've received not-so-good advice!

any jointing compound will do.

Buy a potable one and you can use it for other jobs as well.
