Look in Farnel or RS Components and there are many plugs and sockets. Also seem to remember as well as N and S type 7 pin plugs there are wagon plugs and sockets with more pins.
This
type is common 10 way at 10A is available but expensive.
SY cable is a flexible cable with steel braid (less protection than steel wire) armour. I presume the S stands for steel but I dunno what the Y stands for.
I've only used smaller sizes but the method i've always used to terminate it is to unpick the braid, twist the strands of braid together and heatshrink sleeve them. This bundle can then be treated like a core.
There are many types of multipole IP-rated connectors, for small quanties look at suppliers like RS and farnell (if possible I reccomend getting the paper catalogues as their websites aren't brilliant for browsing)
Origin of the name SY
In CENELEC code – the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation – the S in SY stands for steel wire braid, and the Y for PVC insulation and sheath.
The "Y" As in 6242Y which is pvc twin and earth cable
