I am very new to powerflushing and know the basics as outlined in the standard (crappy) training received from manufacturer but thought some you experts on here  may be able to pass on a few methods or secrets to make it more effective.

gasgirl

Make sure you run it through each radiator individually and give the radiator a good smash with a rubber mallet.

Hi Gasgirl. Well the answer to this question could be huuuuge to be honest. exactly what do you already know about powerflushing? It's very dependant on what kind of system you're flushing and how bad it is. Alot of the flushes i come accross need pipework reconfiguration as well. i mean if a system is pulling in air due to poor configuration, there's not much point in flushing it out as the problem will just reoccur. One good tip i have is to fully drain the system first, and refill from the machine without fully bleeding the rads. this allows only the bottom half of the rad to be cleaned (where most sludge tends to be) this isn't always the best thing to do but it works really well.

ok thanks for that.

say on a pumped ch gravity dhw, im wondering of best ways to isolate dhw,
also do you isolate cold feed and cap vent or prefer to remove f&e tank and join pipes together as suggested in training?

when connecting to a system where theyre keeping old boiler for instance mexico or classic do you run through boiler or take boiler out of equation

the way i was tought to do it was to begin flush with all rads open add chems change direction frequently isolate all rads except 1 flush that for a while (how long do you do it for?) then open another and close that then when you get to the end start dumping 1 by 1 until theyre all clean as a whistle :)

sorry for the essay

Well as you've been told is pretty much standard. Usually use existing boiler where possible for heat. A heater will do the job also but is painstakingly slow to warm up and the boiler can get up to 80c very quick which your proflush machine can handle no problem
You will of course want to remove the F&E so you can clean it out.

thankyou mickey
do you join the f&e & cold feed together or just isolate them?

i guess im worried about knackering the boiler up with sludge, how do you prevent this?

what do you use to isolate dhw circuit? and do you flush that seperate?

sorry for all the questions but i just want to be good at what i do.

no, don't see this as any use as water will bypass this circuit and take easier route.

it shouldn't happen while your flushing and as long as you get moost of the carp out it won't happen later either

isolating valves  and yes flush this aswell.

I am sorry you did not like the training as someone here said it was quite good. I have been to the Kamco and thought that was not bad although sandwichs would have been nice but then it was free I suppose.

If you wanted to know about any secrets then I would only tell you inside the CC trade forum where trade discussions are best placed.

Then Good Luck with that- just dont call yourself a plumber- just a Gas Engineer  The CC trade forum is like Free Masonry but includes Ladies , so get in there

thanks mickey  agile :) i shall have to register in the combustion chamber so sir agile can reveal his secrets

i believe the best way to dealwith these is to isolate them and reconnect them when ch is flushed and drained and do not add inhibitor
