Bicarbonate of Soda For Unblocking a toilet

Is there any risk of damaging the seals around a toilet waste by pouring/flushing bicarb and vinegar mix down it to clean the waste pipe?
Lots of people recommend it as a way of clearing sluggish drains but i just want to be sure its ok to use before i cause any damage....
