my roof is a shallow pitched lean-to warm roof , 150 mil rafters bird mouthed onto a 2x4 wall plate (i think its called a wall plate) , i want to level the ceiling off to provide a small space for plumbing and electrics so i dont have to go through the rafters and insulating.
whats the best way to fix this ceiling guys? do i need another wall plate below the one thats on there already and fix mini rafters/joists to it? the space will only be 12-14 inches deep and i plan to use lath and a one and a half coat of chalk/lime/goats hair mix as my plaster (traditional for these parts) so the ceiling will be light weight.
the problem with another wall plate is that its an old (500 years) timber framed house and its very wonky with not a lot in the wall to fix to.
any ideas?
