3 port valve problem

Hi there, I have had a problem with my central heating over the past couple of days. Problem being I had hot water but no heating. After a few hours scouring google etc. i come to the conclusion that my problem was with the 3 port valve. the make is a salus 322 and up until 10 minutes ago i thought i had the problem solved. Let me explain. The manual switch according to spec sheet on Salus website states it is for draining down, not sure how to do that or even if i need to but hey there you go.
After reading some of the similar problems peeps have with 3 port valves on this forum i discovered that this actual manual switch thingy opens up both HW and CH. wasnt sure if i needed both CH and HW switched on digital thing but tried my luck anyway. low and behold, problem solved and boiler fired up and we could all creep out of our sleeping bags as the rads warmed up.............. for about 10 minutes. Then it all packed up. No boiler, no nothing. Anyways, to cut a long story short. When the manual lever is lifted to position nothing happens, but if i sit in my airing cupboard and hold this manual switch lever up a tad more with my finger the boiler fires up and i can feel the hot water running through both sides ( HW & CH). Im not a donut and i think its safe for me to presume i need a new actuator for the bloody thing, But has anybody got a quick fix or a remedy for this evening, cant spend another night with 6 in a bed to keep warm.

thats probably because the hw stat is calling for heat.

sounds like the motors failed and your hw stat is calling for heat.

Thanks Seco, if only i knew what that meant. Would installing a new Actuator solve the problem or am i wasting my time. Thanks again for fast response

you need to check its getting the power from the stat.

put ch on room stat up and see if you get 230v on the white wire to the valve.

Cheers seco, im assuming i would need some sort of electrical test gear to do that and dont have it so no joy there, like i said the strange thing is if i push the manual thingy a little more, and i mean like 2 or 3mm more than the actual resting position it all works fine, i just dont fancy kipping in the airing cupboard tonight with my finger on it.

then remove cyl stat so it has no contact with cylinder and leave hw on at programmer.

that'll give you heating till tomorrow.
but be careful with the hw in the morning it will be extra hot as you have removed the stat.

ps it's not that bad in essex to need your heating on.

Seco, trust me it is when you aint had none for three days. think i get what you mean with Cyl Stat. no problem with that. Valve does hold in position but boiler doesnt fire up, if i hold it up above its resting position like a cpl of mm boiler fires up, the second i let go boiler stops working, must be some sort of microswitch or something i guess??
