I have heard this also, so how should we put it to the test

Very unlikely - although swans are powerful birds and are the largest bird in the UK. Unless you are suffering from a condition like brittle bones, are a child, or happen to fall as a result of being hit by a swan, you are very unlikely to break you arm or leg by being hid by a swans wing.

They can give you a nasty bruise though, and their nails on their toes can scratch skin if you pick them up, and they have a nasty peck, buts thats about it really.

When we were kids we set out in rubber dingy to rob a swans nest. The male was as mad as Gurkha and very nearly snapped our necks let alone a leg. We all laid in the bottom of the dingy flailing the oars about trying to beat it off. Young yobbo's nil swan 1

I suspect a man's leg could more easily break a swan's wing...

If you are short, a swan could definitely blind you though.

Swans and geese can get very aggressive though - we always keep the dog well away from them because whenever he gets within 20 feet they start hissing and climbing out of the water.

Geese have been known to attack reasonably-sized dogs!!!

The Mute Swan is one of the heaviest birds in the world, and reaching speeds of 55mph, I would not like to be hit by one if it flew right at you!

I had one of my sandals 'beaked' by a swan once. Does that count

Thanks, I also though the swan would come off worse having thinner bone structure. ;)
