Double glazed units require replacing....

I have wooden window frames in my cottage and all of the double glazed units require replacing, they've been installed for 15yrs and moisture has some how or other crept into all of them. They measure approximately 6" by 9"....what would your advice be regarding replacements, should I perhaps just go back to plain old glass ?

I would stick with units, granted single glazing seems less of a problem on the face of it but you'll increased noise, someting you may not have sampled yet. Find out why all your units have blown, my guess is they're all bedded on putty......a big no no!

There are eleven properties in the cul-de-sac......all have the same style and design of window, they all require new double glazing, a couple of properties have replaced......no putty, all have a silicone sealant. I have no idea what the lifespan is of double glazing units?

I live in a very quiet area so the noise wouldn't be a problem, the only problem with single glazing might be during the winter.

Single glazing would be a cheaper alternative too !

Around 10 years, you would be mad to have single glazing installed, as well as sound, you will have condensation problems, your house will be colder and less efficient to keep warm not to mention it will be a contravention of Building Regulations.

Expect to pay about £25 a unit fitted if there's a few, these should last about 15 years if properley packed.
