timer lightswitch at both ends

Hi

Have wired up a two way lightswitch with a timer switch at one end, on my practice board


The instructions do not show if you can put a timer on both ends. Can you and if so I can't figure out how I would wire it.

I am thinking Grey and brown currently in connector box in live, black and blue in load and brown in L2.

I would try it, but I don't like hit and hope, and I dont havespare 2amp fuse

Slaves are for use with dimmers
You cannot usually link two timers for 2 way ,you can have one timer and a 2 way switch, sometimes.

You need to check the instructions, but it looks like.

FEED to common of a 2 way switch

TWO STRAPPERS from the switch to the TIMER.
(L1 and L2 of the switch to Live and 2 way of the timer)

LOAD [Lamp] to the TIMER output terminal marked LOAD.

plus a neutral to the load [Lamp]

It is possible you may be able to link two timers By using just
Live And Load terminals linked in parralel but that would not work as normal two way.

why would you want to put a timer each end?

The timers should have two way provision, so just wire as normal. Unfortunately this will give the facility of one timer switching on,and,while the light is on, the other switch will switch off.

This is perfect for stairwell lighting when lights get left on all night.

Not with that type of timer......

And if you are using plunger type off delay timers for corridoors and stairs, you forget all about 2 way and wire them all in parallel.

If you mean stairwell type timers you would normally have a timer at each switch. Elkay make most of the pneumatic and electronic replacement timer switches and if you get their catalogue or register to download datasheets you will find lots of circuits including for converting existing multi-way switching to timer.

I would agree and any two way switching would switch light on when timed out.

Even with push buttons and central PLC one can't really improve on timers in parallel as living in flats myself one would press button as one passed each landing so one would expect multi on commands.

The only improvement on timers in parallel is to use PIR's

ERICMARK, I was only kidding, i installed a series of timers in the stairwell of a block of flats only a year ago,(replacing a two way with intermediate switches). Only problem was all the cables were black.

Very common in flats to wire from the CU via all lights, switches, EM lights with 3 core.

All switches in parallel, with L, SL, N available at all points, term blocked where not required.

The only thing with incorporating the EM lights on the same run is that you need to key-switch each EM light (switch adjacent fitting). If you run the EM's seperately you can key switch the origin only.
