The Saville Report

IMHO the whole process has been a vast waste of public money.
You are probaly right but when a big compensation pay out comes to the family's who lost their loved ones they won't think so.

So if people are going to be allowed to claim compensation from this,,, lets have another inquiry which exonerates 1 Para. Just think how much compo could be saved for around £200+ million.
Better still, lets share the compensation bit straight down the middle. British Govt pay half and the IRA pay the other half.

If there was nothing else worth bombing apart from Dresden - don't you think that proves it was unnecessary? It had no military significance - check it out on a map. There's a great photo of an angel statue looking over Dresden after the bombing - have you seen it?

Oh and it wasn't US that were better - the Yanks had industrial clout - and THAT is what won the war.

EDIT You'll find a copy of that photo on this site about - scroll down.

ellal. Can I just add fuel to the fire here and quote wiki??

Quote ""McGuinness joined the IRA around 1970 at the age of 20, after the Troubles broke out. He originally joined the Official IRA unaware of the split at the December 1969 Army Convention. He shortly switched to the Provisional IRA. By the start of 1972, at the age of 21, he was second-in-command of the IRA in Derry, a position he held at the time of Bloody Sunday.[5] A claim was made at the Saville Inquiry that McGuinness was responsible for supplying detonators for nail bombs on Bloody Sunday where 14 civil rights marchers were killed by British soldiers in Derry. Paddy Ward claimed he was the leader of the Fianna, the youth wing of the IRA in January 1972. He claimed McGuinness, the second-in-command of the IRA in the city at the time, and another anonymous member gave him bomb parts on the morning of 30 January, the date planned for the civil rights march. He said his organisation intended to attack city-centre premises in Derry on the day when civilians were shot dead by British soldiers.""

So just because he's an MP now, do you still believe him?????

Will the truth ever be known???

ellal , have a read sometime at the Lord Widgery report into the shootings.
Completely contradictory to Lord Saville's findings.
Now had Lord Saville found exactly the same as his predecessor, he too would have been castigated and the whole inquiry would now be called a whitewash. Don't tell me I'm wrong either.
All this inquiry has done is to line the pockets of some vastly overpriced lawyers. Do you really believe the findings this time around?
Do you believe the whole truth has finally emerged?

IMHO the whole process has been a vast waste of public money.
Not a waste to the family's though... ;)

And just because only one side (the side you seem to disagree with) is vindicated, doesn't mean it's a waste of time..

A reasonable summary

However, Widgery was a hasty report bent on vindicating the actions of a combat unit at the time...Saville is something different, and whilst costly another important step...there can never be 100% truth, but this one didn't come at the situation with 'eyes already shut'!

If you had bothered to ask about support for similar inquiries into IRA actions instead of going off on a rant in a vain attempt to justify your inaccurate assumption you might have had a point... ;)

An old one I know but - One man's terrorist, is another's freedom fighter...

Note Israel. Must have knocked off a few Brits in the day.

In the end who cares about ordinary people??

You can, but do you believe it?... ;)

He said his organisation intended to attack city-centre premises in Derry on the day when civilians were shot dead by British soldiers.""

Let's go to Widgery shall we?

If the Army had persisted in its "low key" attitude and had not launched a large scale operation to arrest hooligans the day might have passed off without serious incident.

That's right, Hooligans...

Where were the guns and bombs that were supposed to be around at the time?

I wonder if the Israelis can dig up Widgery - he'd make a great investigator of their latest piracy/murders... ;)

And equally, the side you seem to agree with are vindicated. #
Your quote there actually says "there can never be 100% truth"

So back to you ellal. Do you believe the report ? Do you believe everyone involved has told the truth, or only the select few?

Still a complete waste of time and money.
Next thing , they'll order an inquiry into the crusades or the English Civil War.

And now you mention your favourite subject/ enemy. Yep let's have an inquiry into the Middle East while we're at it then, but for christ's sake let the Israeli's /Palestinians etc pay for this one.

Its been pointed out the IRA have nothing to do with this.

The out come of the inquiry is that the shootings were unjustified and a big compensation pay out will likely follow, unless a deal as been done where by the Prime Minister as said sorry in the commons.

Tony Blair set up the Saville inquiry and as middle east envoy theres always a possibility there could be one

, but for Christ's sake let the Israeli's /Palestinians etc pay for this one.
Is that use of irony  which side would He have been on :?:

If you mean Tony B.liar, then it's obvious who's side he's going to be on. What I'm saying is that if there ever is an inquiry into middle east affairs then let the middle east countries pay for it. At the end of the day TB is only a British subject now. He's been appointed by the UN. Surely there's enough countries in the UN to pick up the tab for any inquiry in the ME without expecting us Brits to pay for it???
If however you mean Lord Saville,,, the same answers apply.

Anyway Lord Saville has made ellal a very happy chappy. ;) ;) ;)

That's right, Hooligans...

Where were the guns and bombs that were supposed to be around at the time?

Mhmmm having been born in Northern Ireland in the early 60s and spent 40 years there think the IRA were more than just hooligans long before this. I think they used 'hooligans' as cover to distract police/army

As for where were the guns and bombs, it is widely stated that McGuinness had a machine that day and being 2nd in command also he had been given explosive devices

Ahhhhhhh Nigel, sorry, I see what you mean now.

JC would have been on the side of all mankind. Sort of sitting on the fence really.

I don't think he'd take too kindly to being cross examined again though. ;) :D
