Quoting text

I'm sure I'm being dense but how do I quote someone's text in a thread and get their username to appear above the quote?
I know I can

but how do I do it so that it says "Joe Bloggs said" and allow users to click and return to the original text?

thanks for the explanation, but i still don't understand... was i wrong in some way?
