ok, without working it out with pencil and paper, give your intuitive / instinctive answer to to the following :- (I might have done this before so apologies if I have)

Assume the earth, the sun and a pea are all perfect spheres.

A rope is run across the "equator" such that the ends of the rope just touch on each object. (probably a piece of cotton in the case of a pea :LOL:)

You now want the said rope to be exactly 1 foot uniformly away from the surface of said objects.

How much extra rope do you need in each case so that the ends still touch?

i know the answer, so won't ruin it... but use pie instead of pea !! (oh i meant pi!!)
 
how thicks the rope?
Not given it much thought but about 0.000 568 181 818 18 mile (plus the diameter of the rope x 18 )
