Honeywell Motorised Valves - a few questions please...

Hello all, this is my first post…

I have two Honeywell Motorised Valves. The first is a V4043H1056 (22mm, 5 wires; Brown, Blue, Orange, Grey and GRN/YEL earth. The Second is a V4043H1106 (28mm 6 Wires; Brown, Blue, Orange, Grey, GRN/YEL earth AND White.

I have some questions, probably quite simple, but I just want to get a thorough understanding before installing….

From looking at the Honeywell Data sheet http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/h...h/Honeywell V4043 Technical Specification.pdf I see that the “De-energised state” of these vales is closed. In laymen’s terms does this mean that when power is NOT applied to the valve then the valve is closed and thus not allowing water to flow through?

I presume that when connected to a power source (Brown to POS, Blue to Neg and Yel/Grn to Earth, the valve will open allowing water to flow through. Is this correct?

Can someone also please tell me what the Orange and Grey wires are for and also what the White wire is for (V4043H1106 Only)?

I'm sure your installer will know, but anyway, the grey, orange and white wires are connected to the end switches and control the boiler (and possibly the pump)
 
Yes, what you've said is right, willing2try.

Grey and orange close when the valve is open, white and orange when it's closed (rarely used).


If you really want, there is a version which is open when no power's applied.
 
Thanks Mick, but, as mentioned in my post I will be Installing. Could you please be a little more specific in your answers...? I.e how the other wires are used? when they become live etc?

As you can see, when the programmer comes on for HW, CH or both, power goes from the programmer to the HW or CH stat. If the stat is calling (ie. switch closed) the power carries on to the brown wire of the valve and opens it.

When the valve is opened, it triggers the microswitch inside the valve. This is connected to a seperate circuit, witch allows power from the grey wire which is permanently live to flow through the microswitch and down the orange wire to the pump and boiler.

The microswitch is a safety interlock. In other words, the pump and boiler can only be turned on if the valve is in the open position, thus preventing damage to the system.

Blue and green/yellow and just permanently connected to the neutral and earth supplies. Only lives are switched (brown, grey, orange)
 
bear in mind that if you are going to use the grey and orange connections then the whit will require isolating. Been to way too many jobs where this has been left dangling now and got a lil tingle........

I shouldn't laugh, but I did! Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me when the white wire becomes 'live'?
