lay roofing felt on existing leaking roof?

My 85 year old dad lives in a 1920's bungalow with original pitched ceramic tiled roof. About 20 years ago he paid for spray-on expanding foam insulation. Unfortunately now the roof is leaking, with this stuff stuck directly on to the back of the tiles and almost impossible to get off to find location of leak (s). We suspect water is collecting behind this foam layer and tricking down till it finds a place to enter.
Could we lay roofing felt on top of the existing tiles and fix with bituminous adhesive? We need to waterproof the roof for his remaining years, it doesn't matter what it looks like! As he has no money, and the house will more than likely be demolished when he goes, a new roof is out of the question. Any ideas?

Agreed. Get an extension built on yours with the money from the sale. downstairs loo etc so that he can easily be accomodated.

Green ceramic - kind of wavy tiles probably worth enough as salvage to cover cost of boarding and felting - maybe . either way you won`t get felt to stick on over the lap in the tiles . Beware who you get to look rogue traders everywhere in the roofing game - like the loft sprayers 20 years ago . Have a word with Age Concern or Citizens Advice - there are schemes to help old folks stay in their homes

They are red tiles, Belgian apparently 'tuileries du nord', quite attractive. Yes, wavy. Everyone seems to think putting roofing felt on top is out of the question. Will definitely contact Age Concern see if they can be of any help, as he won't consider moving. Thanks for your replies, guys.

You could re-tile it with cheap tiles for 3-5k depending on the size of it.

Whats the biggest size tarp you can buy? The neighbours probably would like that look though
