A client posed an interesting question to which I did not really know the answer.
What is the best brand/model shower pump in the 2.5-3 bar range?
Most plumbers will have a favourite, but how much of that is based on “it's been all right for me”, “always done it this way”, or even worse “I get a good deal on them”?
The pump that needs replacing is a 1.5 bar model and it is temperamental and sounds like it has air in it. According to the owner it is only a couple of years old, which would be an appallingly poor performance.

So what should brand I advise the chap?

Grundfos Amazon

Brass impellers, rated for domestic and industrial use, silicone carbide seals etc.

Or the Monsoon is also excellent IMO.

ST Monsoon or Salamander, Monsoons are better quality with more brass bits but are more expensive for the same performance. Not yet tried a Grundfos Amazon, might be worth a look

EDIT: Have looked, and Grundfos don't appear to publish their performance curves, which kind of puts me off buying them as I don't know what I'm getting

If I saw it correctly (not quite sure as it was not very accessible), it is a Salamander that has given up after about 3 years.

I’ve personally got a 3 ½ year old Sally RHP fitted which has performed faultlessly (if not rather noisily) to date; but when it eventually gives up the ghost, I will be replacing it with a ST Monsoon. Since fitting my Sally, which I admit was mainly cost driven, my experience of ST Monsoons is that they are quieter &, though performance is going to be very similar like for like, those extra “brass bits” will make a big difference in pump longevity.
