Morning All,

I have a 2yr old Worcester Bosch Greenstar CD30I which has just started playing up and the Worcester engineers is strugling to explain it.

I call it in after the unit purged on U9 code on teh display and then went cold. Its also showing the syphon fill code frequently. I had hte eng here and he plugged his laptop in and told me 'the boiler is fine. it must be air in the system or inballanced flow'. OK fine, so go around and open all the valves. One of whch was closed on the upstairs bypass. So i open it and the heating is running normally, all rads hot. This morning I got up at 5:30 to bleed the system when fully cold and its heating ok now.

Then I turn on a hot tap and the temp runs up to U9 in about 3 sec and prurges the system. So now we are freezing again and waiting on Worcester to send another guy!

Any help and advise much needed and appreciated

Sounds like your boiler is fine, but somebody messed up the balance of the system. From the way you describe it, it also seems to be a poor design with some faulty pipework.
Is it open vent?

Ben, Thanks for the time to reply.

There was an imbalance, but i have now opened all the valves and stats and have red hot rads when the boiler starts.

I can now get the heating on and controlling but when the HW is turned on the temp rises within 3 sec to 99 the U1 to U9 and purges

Can this still be imbalance?

you say it is showing the syphon fill program frequently. get someone to check that your boiler has both 'switched' and 'permanent' live supplies. this will cause issues if there is no permanent live.

Opening all the valves will also completely disturb the balance.
It might be an idea to read through the faq's and other basic things if you don't know the term open vent.
With all due respect, the issue you have is far too complicated for you to diy.

Sounds as if there is limited flow on hot water.

As Ben has said get someone to sort it out for you. Worcester wil only deal with the boiler.

This is a combi isn't it? U1 - U9 just means it's gone over 99DegC. The display only has two digits!

Sounds like a blocked plate heat exchanger to me.

Sounds like a blocked plate heat exchanger to me.[/quote I have a non technical way of working out the blockage on these boilers which may be of assistance! If a worcester boiler blocks out the burner when running dhw from a bath it is more often than not the plate! if you put it in high fire and you get all flashing lights it is the heatcell blocked. hope this helps..90% success rate!

I would like to know if this boiler is a combi or system boiler , how old, going on what sort of system and is it a new fault?
