Hi,
Some years ago I changed the look on boring white sockets/switches by adding brass look faceplates on top of original white ones in living room by only removing holding screws and adding faceplates (quite easy) I can no longer locate similar ones, does anyone know where I can purchase some? I want to change the look on my kitchen sockets & switches without doing any electrical connections. Any advice greatly appreciated :)

Hi

Wilkinson stores do covers for 'switches' in brass and chrome but I don't think they, or in fact anyone else, will do a cover plate for sockets......

Just bite the bullet and go get yourself some fancy new switches and sockets....you'll feel great about yourself afterwards!

If you are putting metal that is held by the screws holding the switch in place then you MUST ensure that there is effective earthing to those screws.

While the risk of those screws becoming live is small it is not insignificant and a live metal face plate on a switch or socket could prove fatal.

The switch covers sold by Wilkinson are supplied with self adhesive pads which will cut any possibility of the plate becoming live and the reason you will struggle to find anyone to supply a metal socket cover is for the 'earthing' issue alluded to by young Bernard....

Old and experienced, please be accurate.

Sorry old fella....

So the answer is...
