I was just wondering how often I should have my central heating flushed out (new house), how much it would cost approximately (Bedfordshire) and how much money it could save me in heating bills (need to convince the wife). Are there any websites where I could calculate the savings as I'd also like to convince my friends to do this on environmental grounds. Many thanks..:)

NEVER - unless it's dirty or you change the boiler. Even then, most modern systems don't need much cleaning.

It will be a decade or two before your new system needs flushing, if at all.

Best thing you can do is prevent as much internal corrosion in the first place, by making sure that you have the correct concentration of corrosion inhibitor in it.

Other than that, consider a filter to catch magnetite, etc before it can lodge in the boiler or system. It fits on the return pipe near the boiler.
